symbols that have changed meaning
instantly when thinking of a symbol that has changed its meaning over time i thought of the crusifix.
The cross as a Christian symbol or "seal" came into use at least as early as the second century and the marking of a cross upon the forehead and the chest was regarded as a talisman against the powers of demonsthe crucifix is a symbol for Jesus' resurrection on the cross. But over time the meaning of this symbol has changed...
pagans--now use the cross as decoration or as an occult symbol...
an upside down cross represents the opposite of it's original meaning: satanism and its mockery of Christ.
it is also used in fashion.
it is also seen on certain flags

intergalactic road signs
this week we had to create a series of road signs for an uknown culture. Using my knowledge of symbols i chose to create my road signs for an inter galactic context. i enjoyed this as it gave us the chance to ignore our knowledge of current road sign and create something completely different yet still sticking to the rule of keeping the symbol simple.
